Some
have often wondered about the story behind the product. What brought
two young entrepeneurs to the most significant invention the travel
industry has seen since the inception of the wheeled carry-on bag
in
1985?
Troy
and Jim, best friends since high school are so much alike that
they often joke that they must have been separated
at birth. Both describe themselves as the fun-loving,
adventurous "boy next door" types (but only if that
conjures up good memories for you... if your neighbor has been
featured
on the TV show "COPS", then please disregard this connotation.)
Even though they grew up in the same Midwest state, they did not
cross paths until in their university days in the mid 1980's.
They
often preferred discussing entrepreneurial dreams over studying. These
are the same guys who opened the neighborhood lemonade stands
as kids.
Over the years, they operated business ranging from a window cleaning
company to purchasing a detailing franchise. Between the two of
them they
have over 25 years of experience with fortune 500 companies. The
entrepreneurial spirit can never be quenched and the inventors
mind can not stop
inventing.
In early
1998, Troy had "the" idea. Struggling to pull his wheeled
carry on luggage around the airport one afternoon, it dawned on him
that the task should not have to be so difficult. The creative juices
began to flow and the young entrepeneur spent nearly every evening
and weekend for the next year trying to create a solution for
his uncomfortable
travel experience. Dozens of trips were made to the hardware store,
and several models later, the prototype was birthed.
After 18 months of research and design, marketing analysis and environmental
scanning (plain old-fashioned hard work) TravelTow was born. Two
and a half years later, TravelTow Inc received a patent and their
products began appearing in retail shops around the country.
